Bright summer day at last Blue sheets to sky to cast Who knew this day would be A lonely day for me He said as tears streamed down I'll miss you most of all All I wanted you to know Is I don't miss you Sure I'll think of when Of the days we were just kids And the feeling of a love so strong to hold For you'll be sad again Now that you've made your mind The love you didn't find If I'm not the only one Then don't miss me now

about

William Chernoff’s first release with guitar instead of piano has him managing loneliness while remaining optimistic. It reflects on changing seasons and the necessity of hard work and reinvention in order to stay alive in the midst of uncertainty. It also represents an opportunity to dig back into music that has defined his career for a decade.

"Don't Miss Me" was written in 2013 and is Chernoff's most unapologetic attempt at writing a Tin Pan Alley standard. His collaboration with vocalist Will Clements, another young 'WC' from New West, on this song is the kind of local music memory that you can bank on Chernoff to deliver.

* * *

The place I miss the most while sharing this song is a venue in New Westminster that presented live music every night - including me and my friends in 2013. I remember my friend Meghan wrote a different set of lyrics to the song at that time - do they still exist anywhere?

We performed "Don't Miss Me" back then, and hours after the end of that gig, a heritage building burned down across the street on Columbia.

Then in 2020 - The first time I performed with this trio of Francis and Carson, I also returned home to New West in flames: this time at Westminster Pier Park.

Now in 2021, this storied little restaurant venue itself has also caught fire and is no more. I didn't expect this song to be about The Heritage Grill, but it is.
